Ball: The ball used for water polo is constructed out of waterproof material to give it the ability to float on water. An additional cover is added to the ball to provide players with additional grip. The size of the balls differs depending on whether the ball is being used for a men's, women's, or junior's game.
Caps: The water polo caps are used to protect a players' head and ears, as well as to make them identifiable from afar. All caps are fitted with ear protectors. The Home team wears numbered white caps, while the visiting team wears numbered black or dark-colored caps. Both goalkeepers wear a red cap.
Goals: Two goals are required to be able to play a water polo game.
Mouth guard: Although mouth guards are not a mandatory piece of equipment, they are highly recommended.
Swimwear: Male water polo players typically wear a speedo or a jammer. Female water polo players are required to wear a one-piece swimsuit. Suit-grabbing is very common in water polo, so players must wear tight-fitting suits, and may also wear multiple suits at a time for additional security. Female polo suits are generally one-piece suits which do not have open backs, but instead are secured by a zipper on the back so the straps can not be grabbed.
Goggles: Goggle are not permitted to be worn during the game of water polo.
